24 Maoists Killed in an encounter on AOB
Twenty-four members of the ICC banned (Maoist) were killed in an encounter with a combined team of police of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha near Jantri in Malkangiri district of Odisha, a few kilometers from the border with Andhra Pradesh in the early hours of Monday.
Speaking to the Media Malkangiri Superintendent of Police (SP) Mitrabhanu Mohapatra confirmed the death of 24 Maoists in the joint anti-Maoist operation in both states.
“As the place where the meeting took place is too far away and is accessible by road across Andhra Pradesh, the body must be airlifted by helicopter to Malkangiri,” he said.
Based on this information, the Greyhound commandos of Andhra Pradesh and the armed forces of the Odisha Police have taken this joint operation, “Mr Mohapatra said.
Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma told The Media that some top leaders of the Maoist party could be among the dead, but it will take some time to confirm the same.
A combing of the police noticed two States Maoists moving in the forests in the area and Malkanagiri the firefight broke out, he said.
“We suspect that Maoists from Odisha and AP assembled in forests for a plenary session, as many weapons were seized in the area.
